dont judge a book by its cover

Today, I am going to be talking about the metaphorical phrase 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. The meaning that we shouldn't let first appearances become our judgement. The phrase is attributed to a 1944 edition of the African journal American Speech: “You can't judge a book by its binding.” It was popularized even more when it appeared in the 1946 murder mystery Murder in the Glass Room “You can never tell a book by its cover.

Judging means to form an opinion about someone according to what you see and what you believe. People tend to judge others based on their morality or social standards, some people like judging others because that makes them feel good and more moral How many times have you been wrongly judged?

Surely many. This is why you must avoid judging other people. Respect what others do and decide, because maybe what you are critiquing so much, you will end up doing sooner or later as well. Then it will be you who is being judged There are serval reasons why we judge others here are just two reasons why. : The Way You Feel About Yourself, Bonding Through Insecurity. 

 To many people when you think of someone with a disability you automatically think that its physically shown, don’t you? But that’s where your wrong. You might be sat here in the same room with someone with a disability but you wouldn’t know because they like ' normal'. So, you judge them, if it

A physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, or stamina.  Other physical disabilities include impairments which limit other facets of daily living. They usually fall into one of two categories: 

 Hereditary. This is where a person has been born with a physical disability or developed one due to inherited genetic problems, has suffered an injury at birth, or has issues with their muscles.

Acquired – An acquired physical disability could be due to a road traffic accident, workplace incident, via an infection or disease, or as a side effect of a medical condition such as a stroke or cancer. There are over 11 million people with disability in the UK. Over 80% of disabled people acquired disability later in life. Fewer than 20% were born with disability. 

Just because someone doesn’t look it could they still be disabled. Invisible disability, or hidden disability, are defined as disabilities that are not immediately apparent. People with some kinds of invisible disabilities, such as chronic pain or some kind of sleep disorder. 10 million out of an overall population of 64 million Brits. 

i have a close connection with a hidden disability, as many of you might knowthis is my mom. she seems like a normal mom to everyone. unfortunatley my mom has M.E. , also known as CFS - chronice fatigue syndrome. it is charactreised by a range of neurological symptoms and signs, muscle pain with intense physical or mental exhustation. 

around 200,000 people in the uk have it. Although not treated as a disability automatically under the Equality Act, people with M.E. can be teated as disabled deoending upon the effect the illness has on their daily life. in addition it is hard to find out if you have M.E. as the doctors have to rule out any other illness. its also a posibility i have it to.

Do you know what mental illness looks like? Often no as its rarely shown on the outside. Have you judged someone because they don’t always seem happy or the act differently than everyone? It's a condition which causes serious disorder in a person's behavior or thinking. Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. 

Symptoms can vary depending on the disorder, circumstances and other factors. It can effect: emotions, thoughts and behaviour. Examples of signs and symptoms: Feeling sad and down, Extreme mood changes of highs and lows, Withdrawal from friends and activities, Alcohol or drug abuse, Major changes in eating habits, Suicidal thinking. Sometimes symptoms appear as physical problems, stomach pain, back pain, headache or unexplained aches and pains.

Cara Delevigne spoke about her battle with mental illness .The model-turned-actress spoke about how, from an early age, she suffered from bouts of depression, anxiety and suicidal tendencies. Speaking at the 2015 Women in the World Summit, she said, "I was completely suicidal, I didn't want to live anymore. I thought that I was completely alone. I also realized how lucky I was, and what a wonderful family and wonderful friends I had, but that didn't matter. I wanted the world to swallow me up, and nothing seemed better to me than death." 

To conclude, you never know someone's full story. If you don’t know their full story then you have no right to judge them on the little you know about them. They could be capable of doing way more than you think.  it might be hard not to judge someone but have ago at it as you wouldn’t like it if someone judged you. Other people's feelings matter not just yours.
