• Ephors have the right to punish at will, fine, depose of magistrates. Don't often allow office holders to complete their year of office.

• Theyb acted as a curb again excessive power of the King

Xenophon XV:

• Ephors don't stand when the king enters, but stay seated on special thrones. They make an oath to follow the king as long as he follows the law.

• "present method of selection strikes me as childish"

Thucydides 85 - 87:

• Same Ephor that make pro-war speech took the shouting vote and then made them stand on seperate sides. (Forcing segregation makes people more likely to go to the side with more people)
