Different Cells (Plant/Animal/Sperm/Stem)

?

Features of a plant and animal cell

Plant Cell:

  • Vacuole (Contains cell sap, storing sugars and salts)
  • Cell Membrane (Controls what enters and leaves the cell)
  • Cell Wall (Protects the cell and keeps it's shape)
  • Nucleus (Contains DNA and controls cell activities)
  • Chloroplasts (Containing Chlorophyll for photosynthesis and plant pigment)
  • Cytoplasm

Animal Cell:

  • Nucleus (Contains DNA and controls cell activities)
  • Cell Membrane (Controls what enters and leaves the cell)
  • Cytoplasm
  • Mitochondria (Where aerobic respiration takes place)
  • Ribosomes (Found in cytoplasm, where proteins are made)

Features of a sperm and ovum cell

Sperm Cell:

  • Haploid Nucleus - (Half the number of chromosomes than a normal cell)
  • Acrosome - (Containing enzymes to break egg membrane in order to enter)
  • Tail - (To allow them to swim to the egg)
  • Mitochondria - (To provide energy)

Egg Cell:

  • Haploid Nucleus - (Half the number of chromosomes than a normal cell)
  • Cell Membrane - (Only allows one sperm to fertilise the ovum)
  • Cytoplasm - (Contains all the nutrients and mitochondira needed for mitosis)
  • Mitochondira - (To provide energy)

Both cells are haploid cells rather than diploid cells because they are gametes (sex cells).       When fertilisation occurs, an egg and sperm fuse together to create a zygote.

Stem cells

  • Stem cells can ________ into specialised cells.
  • Although, ______ do not grow.
  • Plants continue to grow until they ___.
  • They grow in the ____ tips, shoot ___ and in buds.
  • Plants have _______ cells which have the ability to differentiate.

You can measure growth by:

  • Length
  • Wet Mass - which changes dependant on how much _______ is present.
  • Dry Mass - which requires the living organism _____.

Use of stem cells

Stem cells can be used as future ______ for diseases such as Parkinsons, making people ____ again if they are ___________.

Stem cells would be used from an ________. Embryonic stem cells have the ability to form into ___ cell ____. The stem cells average humans have, can only become a _____ amount of cell types.

People are _______ this research as it could be seen as _______ _____ a life. However, _________ stem cells need to be used rather than ______ stem cells as they are more able to differentiate into __________ cell types.
