Difference between Meiosis and Mitosis and Haploid and Diploid.

In AS Biology unit 2, we learn about Meiosis and Mitosis but its so easy to get confused. I have found a really easy way of remembering the difference between Meiosis and Mitosis and the Haploid and Diploid number.

?

The difference between Meiosis and Mitosis.

The difference is that in miTOsis, TWO genetically identical cells are produced.

(Think of mitosis as miTWOsis).

Whereas in meiosis 4 genetically varied cells are produced.

The difference between Haploid and Diploid number.

The Diploid number of chromosomes represents the number of paired chromosomes. Hence is Double the haploid (remember that they both begin with 'D')

The Haploid number of chromosomes is Half the Diploid number.(this time they both start with 'H').
