Single acting cylinder (SAC)

  • only has one airport
  • when piston rod is pulled out a spring immediately pulls it back in to place.

Double acting cylinder (DAC)

  • two air inlets
  • does not have a spring
  • piston movement is powered by air in both sides
  • air coming in through port B will push the piston negative

Three port valve

  • 3 ports
  • 2 possible states
  • The three ports are holes in the valve where air can flow in and out of the valve
  • numbered so you can make the right connections
  • button on valve is called the actuator.

Port 1- connection to compressed air supply
Port 2- connection to cylinder
Port 3- the exhaust
