Anything you can touch - even gas

Nobody knows, but there are several million that we know of.

A building set of bits called 'elements'. You can make lots of different materials with just a few elements.

What are some basic elements we use and know about?

Oxygen; hydrogen; iron; chlorine; copper; calcium; sodium. The list goes on!

What's in an element?

ANSWER

When you take apart the element you are left with the smallest bits called 'atoms'. They must be exactly the same for it to be an element. If they're not, it isn't an element.

What's a non-element?

ANSWER

Anything that has more than one kind of atom.
