AS Biology - Cell Structure - Cells & Organelles

These cards contain information taken from the note formation and I've also created a word search containing the key terms from this topic.

?

Prokaryotes & Eukaryotes

Prokaryotic organisms ---------> Prokaryotic cells - single-celled organisms

Eukaryotic organisms --------> Eukaryotic cells

Eukaryotic cells - complex and include animal and plant cells

Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler e.g. bacteria

Both types of cell contain organelles - parts of cells with each one having a specific function

1 of 3

Eukaryotic - Animal cells

Animal cells:

  • Cell membrane
  • Rough endoplasmic reticulum
  • Nucleolus
  • Nucleus
  • Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
  • Lysosome
  • Ribosome
  • Nuclear envelope
  • Golgi apparatus
  • Cytoplasm
  • Mitochondrion

An in depth and more detailed definition for each of the above cells can be found in the next set of revision cards (AS Biology - Cell Structure - Different Organelles & Functions).

Eukaryotic - Plant Cells

Plant cells:

  • Cell membrane
  • Chloroplast
  • Rough endoplasmic reticulum
  • Plasmodesmata
  • Mitochondrion
  • Golgi apparatus
  • Vacuole
  • Smooth endoplasmic reticulum
  • Cytoplasm
  • Nucleolus
  • Nucleus
  • Ribosomes
  • Cell wall

An in depth and more detailed definition for each of the above cells can be found in the next set of revision cards (AS Biology - Cell Structure - Different Organelles & Functions).
