Transactional- language used to obtain goods, services or ideas. Exchanges
when the speakers are getting something done, where there is an exchange
of information for a particular purpose
Expressive- talk that coveys feelings or emotions
Evaluative- talk that offers opinions and evaluations
Expository- talk that explains ideas or theories
Persuasive- talk that has a persuasive purpose
Phatic- small talk, that eases social interaction
Performative- talk that carries out an act
Interactive- talk that has a clear social function
Collaborative- agreeing and showing soildarity and cooperation
Talk can have more than on purpose such as the purpose within the text for the
characters, and the purpose of the writer wrtiing the text.
