THE EFFECT OF AIR RESISTANCE ON A FALLING OBJECT.
We know that if air resistance is negligible then any object falling freely under
the effect of gravity has an acceleration of 9.81 m/s/s.
This will not be the case if air resistance is significant. The acceleration will
actually decrease as the speed of the object increases. This is explained below.
Consider an object released from rest and allowed to fall vertically:
