What is Positivism?
Positivism is a view that the methods of natural sciences can be used
with equal effect in social science as they share a common logical
framework. Positivism in sociology corresponds to the definition of
science as quantifiable and concerned to identify clearly observable,
causes and co-relations.
Many of the founders of sociology believe it would be possible to create
a science of society based on the same principles and procedures as the
natural sciences such as chemistry and biology. They attempted to apply
natural science methodology to sociology. In terms of sociology, the
