Forced to work with congress dominated by republicans and conservative southern
democratic. They blocked many of Kennedy's policies e.g. The Medical Health Bill.
President Johnson
Aims
`Great Society' ­ more equal and rich and use wealth to help the poor.
Successes
1964-66 he passed 435 bills committing $1.5B to improve schools.
$2.9B to regenerate inner cities social security act to guarantee free Healthcare.
Failures
Vietnam War distracted the government and took up money.
