Please note, these case studies are what I learnt.
Also the exam board I participated in was WJEC. These are
mainly for Theme 3 though you may have covered some of the
content in other units.
Advice: If you have learnt completely different case studies at
school, and you know them quite well, id advise you to use them
however the case studies I learnt are very easy and can be
analysed in detail.
Just to clarify, these are not the official case studies, but you can
use them.…read more

Studies
Why did the secondary sector
decline?
Deindustrialisation meant that factories
in the UK closed and moved abroad.
This was because they could find
people that would work for less wages
abroad in LEDC's like Malaysia.
Also mechanisation meant that
advance machinery replaced people
with machines like tractors. This
decreased the labour needed for
primary jobs like agriculture (farming).…read more

Studies
How did the UK deal with these
changes?
Improvements in education meant that people became
more skilled and qualified for jobs in the tertiary sector.
Manchester increased its tourism and its tertiary sector
by building attractions like the Trafford centre.
What were the Impacts?
Initially people were out of work because they didn't
have the skills required for tertiary jobs, but soon people
retrained using the great education system provided and
became employed in the tertiary sector.
Now, there's less air pollution from factories, and money
earned from tourism and tertiary services could be used
to improve education and healthcare services so that
people had even better qualities of life.…read more

Studies
What changes were there to economic
activity?
Used to be Many workers involved in primary (farming) and secondary (factories)
employment.
Now Lots of tertiary activity and tourism
Why was there a change in economic
activity?
The primary sector (farming) decreased because mechanisation meant
that machines like tractors replaced humans.
The secondary sector (factories) increased because of industrialisation
and later decreased because of deindustrialisation. Factories in the UK
closed and moved abroad. This was because they could find people that
would work for less wages abroad in LEDC's like Malaysia.
The tertiary sector increased because of the good standard of
education. This meant that people were highly skilled and could work in
tertiary jobs.…read more
