Independent groups design

Advantages

  • Quickest and easiest way of allocating participants.

Disadvantages

  • People vary in their experiences attitudes, intelligence, alertness, moods - these are participant variables.

Evaluation

+ Because they're assigned randomly to groups there are no order effect - Because participants are assigned randomly, the researcher doesn't know so the participant variable might produce differents between the results from the two groups, not due to the independent variable so a large sample is needed to reduce this.
