Evaluation

Although the Lupercalia has deep cultural significance relating to the founding of Rome, the practices that are undertaken during this festival are rather unsavoury and not up to the standard of other festvials in the Ancient Mediterranean world. There are, nevertheless, some notable advantages such as the belief of being granted with fertility or easy agricultural labour and eating meat was a rare occurrence also. However, eating meat seems relatively commonplace in other festivals as well so this would not be a major advantage on the Lupercalia’s part. In conclusion: good, but there is better.
