The Lupercalia was held on the 15th February and was a celebration of fertility and purity which dated possibly to pre-Roman times.
It lasted for one day and the sacrifice included goats and a dog.
Mola Salsa (salt and flour) made the animals bow their heads in acceptance.
As the animal was being killed, the Luperci laughed…
