Advantages

Changes in opinions and attitudes can be tracked over time
Correlations can be identified
In-depth and rich data
Rapport, verstehen and empathy can be achieved
Valid

Disadvantages

Time consuming and costly
Small sample
Not representative
Not generalisable
Attrition will occur - people die/drop out lowering representativeness
Researcher could go native
Hawthorne effect could occur

Evaluation

Interpretivists would like this method of research as it gives them a greater insight to their participants lives and allows them to gain verstehen and rapport with the sample.
