Advantages

  • Coloured - LEDs are available in a broad range of brilliant colours (although what the colours look like vary), and white is also a colour available in LED's. Different coloured LED's (typically red, green and blue) can be turned to a huge range of colours.
  • Energy efficient - LED’s are now capable of outputting 135 watts on little energy and so saving power
  • Long Lifetime - 50,000 hours or more
  • Solid - LED’s are also called “Solid State Lighting (SSL) as they are made of solid material with no filament or tube or bulb to break
  • No warm-up period - LED’s light instantly – in nanoseconds
  • Not affected by cold temperatures - LED’s like low temperatures and will startup even in subzero weather
  • Directional - With LED’s you can direct the light where you want it, meaning light is not wasted
  • Good display lights - LED’s do not wash out colors like other light sources such as fluorescents, making them perfect for displays and retail applications
  • Environmentally friendly - LED’s contain no mercury, which is a hazardous substance
  • Controllable - LED’s can be controlled for brightness and colour
  • Failure - Unlike many lights, LED's dim slowly as they are dying and so warning as to when they need changing.
  • UV Light- LED's do not have UV light, meaning they cannot cause skin damage

Disadvantages

  • Expensive - LED's are more expensive than most other light technologies as LED's need a lot of power
  • Voltage Sensitive - LED's must be supplied with a voltage above and a curent below the rating meaning that it can involve series resistors.
  • Blue Hazard - There is a concern that blue and white LED lights may have started to exceed the safety limits of the 'blue-light hazard'. This is because white LED's emit much more blue light that normal outdoor lights and so are causing more light pollution than other lights.
  • Temperature - Although LED's  are amazing in lower temperature, they can overheat and if so will fail. For this reason, LED lights are not reliable for military/medical operations where depending on where they have to go, the temperature varies and so have to have reliable lighting that can work with a range of temperatures.

Evaluation

Although LED lights have their disadvantages, they also have many more advantages. Furthermore, different types of LED lights have lots of uses E.G. a seven-segment LED light is used in a digital clock, video recorders and microwave ovens

LED lights have many more advantages than disadvantages. All the advantages are well explained and I think because of few disadvantages, which cannot happen in normal conditions are not to worry about. LED street lights would be the first and best recommendation to buy for light fixtures.

Inground lights can be found in a wide variety of settings, both indoors and outdoors. When used in combination with ceiling lights, a wall light provides additional lighting, while using wall lights instead of decorative ceiling lights creates a more atmospheric effect and eliminates glare. Vanity lights are an integral part of the light layer in bathrooms. You must apply spiral LED lighting to your living room to make it look amazing.

Thank you for sharing this info. I was actually thinking of purchasing a LED light set. I even found a led ***** light that would suit me. However, having never used these lights, I was pretty skeptical about them. But not anymore. After reading all the pros and cons of LED lights, I've decided that they are much better than classic light bulbs. So I will definitely purchase a LED light set soon. If someone has already installed LED lights and would like to share their opinion, feel free to text me. I will appreciate any help you can provide.
