Biological Approach Evaluation

Advantages

  • It provides clear predictions
  • Explanations can be scientifically proven
  • Offers treatment( drug therapy) for those with abnormal behaviour , allows them to live normal lives.
  • Enables investigation of the brain's functions due to scanning research
  • Provided explanations for psychological disorders

Disadvantages

  • Reductionist - denies cognitive theories and past experiences
  • Experiments have low ecological validity
  • Cannot fully explain behaviour e.g. the subjective. Tries to use biochemicals and nerve impulses
  • Cannot explain the phenomenon of consciousness.
  • Uses animal models to explain human behaviour however, animals have unique evolutionary systems that humans do not have.
  • Excludes social and cultural influence
  • Monozygotic twins cannot be used to excluded nurture as no MZ twins have 100% concordance rates
