Advantages

  • Couples have a right to try for a child. Humans are made with the ability to reproduce and it is due to an illness that they cannot.
  • Infertility is like an illness, causing sadness and depression. These couples should receive medical help. Agape (christian love) means showing people compassion and helping them.
  • God asked humans to 'go forth and multiply'. IVF corrects mistakes in nature and fufills God's plan.
  • If no embryos are killed then there is nothing wrong as there is no murder.

Disadvantages

  • Children are a gift from God, not a right
  • IVF involved the destruction of new life. Killing is against God's law
  • New life should only come from natural love-making and not a scientific process. It undermines christian marriage
  • there are many children in need of adoptions, people who cannot have their own naturally should adopt those who don't have loving parents of their own.

Evaluation

Infertility is seen as an illness which we can and should treat to show agape. However, others believe it is wrong because millions of fertilised viable eggs are chucked down the drain and goes against the commandment 'thou shalt not murder'.
