AdvantagesGetting Started

  • trust in politicians e.g Brexit: MPs opposing views with constituents. A level & GCSE results
  • turnout at elections has fallen e.g 2017 - 68.7%  whilst in the dutch election it was 81.9%
  • the legitmacy of goverment is reduced
  • turnouts at referndums are often low

Disadvantages

  • turnouts in referendums  is sometimes high e.g 64.6% in 1975  but in 2016 - 72.2%
  • Labour party has increased its memebership e.g 190,000 in 2014 to 552,000 in 2018 because of one memeber one vote policy. and having young members
  • pressure group member ship has increased  e.g instinct rebellion
