- Right at the end of the play it becomes clear to the suspects that the Inspector made all of their actions link, but in actual fact they had no relation to one another.
- By the end we question to ourselves: Is he a ghost? Goole reminds us of 'ghoul'. Is he the voice of Priestley? Is he the voice of God? Is he the voice of all our consciences?

- He has no relation to any of the characters.
- His actions, and the subtle way in which he does things makes everybody realise what they did were acts of unforgivableness.
