Advantages

  • Wider variety of products available online compared to offline.
  • Can be cheaper to buy products online because of varied price across the world.
  • You can buy most things from the comfort and safety of your home.
  • Special online offers sometimes available.
  • People with a disability can order their shopping to their house online rather than having the trouble of going to the shop themselves.
  • Online shopping can lower the carbon footprint, this is because less people will go out shopping and so less people will use cars.
  • This can earn a profit for retailers, this is because they don't have to uphold some store that would require rent being payed to maintain it.

Disadvantages

  • Requires internet access to use websites.
  • Some people live in isolated communities where internet isn't widely available for most users.
  • You have to type in some private data (Card details) in order to purchase things.
  • You can't view the products directly before purchasing it.

Evaluation

Overall though I would say the advantages outweigh the disadvantages this is because although Internet access can be a problem for some and others don't fell secure giving personal information including card details to a computer, you can buy it from the safety of your home, it can lower the carbon footprint and it can even be cheaper to buy products online.
