Advantages
- People have right to decide when they die
- More compassionate than allowing someone to die slowly and suffer.
- Not all pain can be controlled so euthanasia is humane
- Death easier to face if we know it will be painless and dignified
- Suffering of relatives is lessened

Disadvantages
- unnecessary in view of advances in palliative care
- Hospices give skilled care- allowed to die with dignity
- Impossible to know if Euthanasia is what someone really wants
- last weeks of someone's life are helpful for relatives and friends to understand
- Possibility of unscrupulous relatives putting pressure on patient to request euthansia
- relationship of trust between doctor and patient threatened
- Implies life is disposable.
- concerns about voluntary to involuntary euthanasia differences
- it’s possible for a mistaken diagnosis
