Advantages

  • low costs
  • real-time access - analysis is available immediately
  • less time - rapid deployment + return times
  • convenience for respondents - can answer questions on their schedule, at their pace + can even start survey at one time, stop then return to it later
  • design flexibility - intricate skip patterns + logic can be emplyed seamlessly

Disadvantages

  • Limited sampling + respondent availability - certain populations less likely to have internet access
  • possible co-operation problems - could delete businesses advances (email)
  • lack of trained interviewer to clarify + probe can lead to less reliable data
