Batch Production

Advantages

  • allows workers to specialise and to use specialist machinery
  • cost per unit are lower
  • materials can be bought in bulk which reduces cost
  • batches can be changed to suit the requirements of the customer

Disadvantages

  • goods need to be stored and this costs money
  • specialist machinery may have to be cleaned or reset between batches and this can take time
  • specialisation of workers may mean that some workers do the same repetitive job all day which is demotivating
  • any mistakes in one batch can lead to the whole batch being wasted

Evaluation

BATCH PRODUCTION is where a number of identical or similar items are produced in a set or batch. The items are not for a specific person.Every now and again you have to stop the production process and rest it for a different product. Examples: bakery products, tins of soup
