- Zinoviev was an old bolshevik from back when the revolution
  - Zinoviev was opposed to the armed uprising which lost him some favour in the party and was very afraid of danger and ran at the first sign of it.
- He was made party secretary in Leningrad allowing him to gain a large amount of influence within the party
  - He was seen as vain and cowardly and this lost him alot of respect and support in the party who stated that he was an unfit leader
