- Physical
- Form of abuse that can involve hitting, shaking throwing, poisoning, burning, misuse of medication restraint or inappropriate physical sanctions.
- Sexual
- Involves forcing or enticing a child to take part in sexual activities. Physical contact including assault by penetration, **** or oral sex etc. Encouraging children to look at sexual things in preparation for abuse.
- Emotional
- Persistent emotional maltreatment of a child, as to cause severe and adverse affects on the child's emotional development. Making them feel worthless, inadequate. For adults: threats of harm of abandonment, humiliation, blaming, controlling.
- Neglect
- Persistent failure to meet a child's basic physical and or/ physiological needs. Resulting in serious impairment of the child's health or development. Not being able to provide food, clothing or shelter. Adults: Ignoring medical or physical care needs.
- Financial
- Can include theft, fraud, exploitation, misuse or misappropriation of property or benefits.
- Institutional
- Can include, neglect and poor care practice within an institution or specific care setting. eg hospital or care home.
- Bullying
- Usually defined as a behaviour that is repeated intended to hurt someone and often targeted at certain groups.
- Discrimination
- Underlies many forms of abuse and includes treating a person less favourably on their differences.
- Exploitation
- Unfairly manipulating someone for profit or personal gain. Abuser pretends to be their friend
- Physical
