What are the four sections the theory is split into?
Proximity Maintenance, safe haven, secure base and separation distress.

What does Proximity Maintenance mean?
A child's desire to be around or near that they are attached to their parent/carer.

What does Safe Haven mean?
A safe house that the child has got attached to their parent/carer. If a child feels unsafe, they go to that parent/carer in order to feel secure.

What does Secure Base mean?
Allows the child to experience the world around them. A child looks for their carer/parent for safety and reassurance.

What does Separation Distress mean?
Where a child experiences anxiety when they aren't around their carer/parent.

What is the best type of attachment?
Secure Attachment- when the care giver has a positive relationship and makes sure that the child giver has a positive relationship and makes sure that the child's needs are met. More then likely to form a long lasting relationship.

What is the second best type of attachment?
Ambivalent Attachment- where the care giver gives an unbalanced amount of care and starts to feel neglected. The child will find it hard to settle when in distress and struggle forming long lasting relationships.

What is the third best type of attachment?
Avoidant Attachment- where the child is being neglected at all times and the carer/parent rejects the parent. The child will not seek attention from anyone and when the child grows up, it will be independent and mature.

What is the worst type of attachment?
Disorganised Attachment- where the child is most likely to experience abuse not necessarily from their parents/carers and neglect. The child will feel alone and won't be lotyal when they develop relationships. Child could end up being abusive.
