- First mRNA polymerase initiates transcription by entering at the promoter site and breaking the complimentary bases allowing the gene to unwind and unzip
- Free RNA nucleotides in the the nucleolus are activated and bind with the exposed complimentary base of the template strand
- This causes 2 extra phosphoryl groups to be released thus providing energy for bonding of adjacent nucleotides
- The mRNA is released from the DNA and passes out of the nucleus, through a pore in the nuclear envelope
