  • Scrooge's Transformation
    • Stave 2
      • "He seized the extinguisher-cap, and by a sudden action pressed it down upon [the ghost's] head."
        • This shows that Scrooge cannot bear to hear what the ghost has to say and he tries to get rid of the ghost as if he still believes he is superior to everyone and has more power.
        • This also shows that Scrooge is still not able to see where he is going wrong and does not want to fix his ways.
    • Stave 4
      • "'I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year'"
        • He has learnt from the spirits and wants to be a better person and wants to embrace the Christmas Spirit to bring joy to others and himself.
      • "'I will not be the man I must have been but for this intercourse'"
        • He has realised that he must change himself for the better and he has understood the reasoning behind this experience.
      • "In his agony he caught the spectral hand, it sought to free itself, but he was stronger in his entreaty, and detained it."
        • Whreas at the beginning, Scrooge pushed the ghost away, he has clearly changed because he now tries to cling on to the ghost.
    • Stave 1
      • "Scrooge had a small fire"
        • This shows that Scrooge has very little Christmas Spirit
      • "the clerk's fire was so very much smaller that it looked like just one coal. But he couldn't replenish it, for Scrooge kept the coal-box in his own room."
        • This shows that Scrooge is a very solitary person with no desire for other human contact in his life.
      • "To edge his way along the crowded paths of life, warning all human sympathy to keep its distance."
        • Scrooge prevents others from feeling the Christmas Spirit because of his own icy disposition.
