  • The Pentadactyl Limb
    • The anatomy of the pentadactyl limb provides scientists with evidence for evolution.
    • A pentadactyl limb is a limb with five digits.
      • The limb is present in many living vertebrate species ranging from mammals, amphibians to reptiles.
        • In each of these species the pentadactyl limb has a similar bone structure but a different function.
          • This similarity in bone structure provides evidence that species with a pentadactyl limb have all evolved from a common ancestor and and this common ancestor itself evolved to have a five digit limb.
            • It is highly unlikely that all these species evolved from different ancestors if they share a similar bone structure.
