- Controller: This sends and receives signals from all parts of the computer and ensure they take place at the right time and correct order
- Arithmetic logic unit (ALU):This processes and manipulates data and perform basic calculations
- Registers: This is a storage location where data is temporarily stored and they are usully much faster to access the internal memory
- Internal memory: This is a fast access memory on the CPU when data is not actively being used
- Buses: These allow data to be transferred to different parts of the computer
- Fetch-decode-execute cycle 1. The instruction is fetched from memory 2. It is decoded to determine what action needs to be carried out 3. The instruction is executed
