  • The Causes of Evil- Christianity
    • Natural Evil
      • Natural occurrence that cannot be prevented e.g. a flood
    • Moral Evil
      • Committed by humans
    • The Devil
      • Some Christians believe we can't blame evil on God because it is caused by the devil
      • If there is good there must also be evil
      • One of God's angels who was thrown out of heaven for wanting too much power- literal belief
      • Tempts Job to go against God in the Book of Job
      • Represented by a serpent who tempts Eve to sin in Genesis
      • Tried to tempt Jesus after he was in the wilderness for 40 days
      • The devil is not literal but a symbol of evil- metaphorical belief
    • Original Sin
      • 'Sin entered the world through one man (Adam/Eve), and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men'
      • All sin is the fault of humans because sin entered the world when Adam and Eve ate from the tree
    • The Inconsistent Triad
      • Evil wouldn't exist if God is both omnibenevolent and omnipothent
      • Evil does exist so God must either not be omnipotent or omnibenevolent
      • A problem as Christians do believe that God is both omnipotent and omnibenevolent
