- Tests for Sulfate Ions
- Add dilute HCL followed by Barium Chloride Solution.
- WHITE precipitate of Barium sulfate means the original compound was a SULFATE.
- Tests for Carbonates
- Test to see if a gas is CO2 - bubbling the gas through limewater. If it is CO2, the limewater will turn CLOUDY.
- Can use this test for Carbonate Ions, as they react with dilute acids to form CO2.
- Acid + Carbonate --> Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide.
