- ELEPHANT
- Based on the Columbine High School Massacre.

- Similarities:Two loners, one has mental illness (he hears jungle noises in the shooting scene, sound overwhelms him in the cafeteria.) No one knows why they shot up the school.
- Differences: Alex kills Eric, witness accounts of columbine described the boys as whooping and laughing, having fun, whereas in the film they are serious, walking with no laughter or excitement.
- Despite advancements to feminism we have no strong female characters, which could be seen as Van Saint commenting on toxic masculinity. The girls are gossipy, quite shallow.

- 9/11: America was nervous about attacks on the country, and this is a citizen's terror attack.
