- Social Impacts
- Uneven Food Distribution
- Many basic food products are used to produce a smaller amount of more desirable goods e.g. meat
- If there is little land poorer people may exploit it unsustainably so outputs decline and traded food reliance increases
- Easier transportation means that LEDCs grow food to export it to MEDCs
- Makes LEDCs less self-reliant on food and no increased money to pay for imported food
- Cash crops less labour intensive = few job opportunities and more rural depopulation
- Misuse of Land
- Over exploitation of soil causes nutrient depletion and soil erosion
- Pollution and salinisation can reduce production
- In poor countries drops in food production can cause famine, abandonment and refugee movements
