  • 2A.10B: Economic value of glaciated landscapes
    • Farming
      • TLD: Langdale key area of farming. Lower slopes used for raising sheep, fell tops for sheep grazing
        • Flat land used for growing winter feed crops
      • Difficult to farm in active glaciated landscapes, some countries rely on fishing instead e.g. Iceland
    • Mining
      • TLD has huge reserves of copper and slate mines. The last workign mine closed in 1991.
      • Glaciers remove loose, overlying soil to expose economically valuable rock
    • HEP
      • Water storage is important in TLD, it is home to reservoirs + aqueducts, which carry water to Manchester
      • 20% of Iceland's primary energy use comes from HEP
    • Tourism
      • Tourism is v. important for TLD, it has 16 million visitors a year, and in 2014 made £1.1 billion from tourism
      • The Alps relies hugely on tourism, 120 million visitors a year to 300 different ski resorts
    • Forestry
      • Forestry generates income in TLD by selling the timber, it also reduces soil erosion
