- River Regimes
- Annual variation in the discharge or flow of a river (Cumecs)
- affected by a number of factors:
- size of the river and where discharge measuremens are taken.
- amount (seasonality) of precipitation. Temperatures(melt waters and high evaporation).
- geology and soils (permeability and porosity).
- type of vegetation cover (wetlands can hold and release slowly)
- Human activity when regulating discharge
- Sicily - Mountain flow in spring causes a major increase in discharge.
- River Thames - mid latitude humid areas influenced by the sea, where rainfall falls all year round (most in winter).
- River Volta - Tropical distinct wet and dry seasons, with high flow soon after rain fall peak; rivers may dry up in dry seasons.
