  • River Regimes
    • Annual variation in the discharge or flow of a river (Cumecs)
    • affected by a number of factors:
      • size of the river and where discharge measuremens are taken.
      • amount (seasonality) of precipitation. Temperatures(melt waters and high evaporation).
      • geology and soils (permeability and porosity).
      • type of vegetation cover (wetlands can hold and release slowly)
      • Human activity when regulating discharge
    • Sicily - Mountain flow in spring causes a major increase in discharge.
    • River Thames - mid latitude humid areas influenced by the sea, where rainfall falls all year round (most in winter).
    • River Volta - Tropical distinct wet and dry seasons, with high flow soon after rain fall peak; rivers may dry up in dry seasons.
