- Conservative beliefs
- Many of them oppose changes that would allow individuals more freedom in personal and sexual matters.
- Example: The Catholic Church forbids divorce, abortion and artificial contraception. It opposes gay marriage and condemns homosexual behaviour/feelings.
- Most religions uphold family values and often favour a traditional, patriarchal family and domestic division of labour.
- Example: Before 1966, women had to promise to "obey," their husband in the wedding vows.
