    • Milbrath and Goel described 3 levels of participants.
      • Gladiators- small number of activists who are heavily involved.
      • Spectators- the majority of the population who observe and vote
      • Apathetics- don't even vote
    • Parry et al surveyed 1500 people and gave them 23 different political actions ie. attending meetings.
      • They concluded that not everyone participates, only 25% participate in a significant way, 3 out of 4 were active to some degree.
    • Protest Politics consist of ethical consumerism, mass blockades, trespasses, demonstrations and political violence.
    • The under class tend to be alienated from society and be apathetic.
