    • USSR.
      • Gains
        • Achieved a closer relationship with a fellow communist state- china.
      • Losses
        • The war heightened tensions with the USA and forced the USSR into an expensive arms race with the USA.
        • USSR failed to 'win' south Korea for communism.
    • UN.
      • Gains
        • Role of the UN was strengthened by the war. Gained respect by taking quick and decisive action.
        • Fulfilled one of its aim- to use combined force to stop aggression. This was something that the league of nations (UN's predecessor) had failed to do in the build-up to WWII.
        • USSR subsequently returned to various UN organisations.
      • Losses
        • Some argued that the war was controlled by the USA rather then the UN, which was just a 'puppet' of the USA. They provided most of the troops and weapons. The commander of the UN forces was American and took orders from the US president.

        • Only able to act because of USSR's absence from security council.
