- Organelles Working Together
- Organelles are involved in protein production
- 1) Proteins are made in the ribosomes
- 2) The ribosomes on the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum make proteins that are excreted or attached to the cell membrane
- 3) New proteins made at the RER are folded and processed in RER (e.g. new sugar chains are added)
- 4) They are then transported to the golgi apparatus in vesicles
- 5) At the golgi apparatus the proteins are further processed (sugar chains are trimmed or new sugar chains are added)
- 6) The proteins enter more vesicles to be transported around the cells
- Glycoproteinsfound in mucus move to the cell surface where they are secreted
- 6) The proteins enter more vesicles to be transported around the cells
- 5) At the golgi apparatus the proteins are further processed (sugar chains are trimmed or new sugar chains are added)
- 4) They are then transported to the golgi apparatus in vesicles
- 3) New proteins made at the RER are folded and processed in RER (e.g. new sugar chains are added)
- 2) Proteins made in the free ribosomes in the cytoplasm stay in the cytoplasm

- The Cytoskeleton has Several Functions
- The organelles in a cell are surrounded by cytoplasm
- Cytoplasm contains a network of protein threads called the cytoskeleton
- Made of two things
- Microtubules
- Untitled
- Microfilaments
- Small solid protein strands
