  • MOZART'S CONCERTOS
    • Mozart began to explore the concerto at a young age. Mozart's five concertos for violin and orchestra were written in 1775, during his early career in Salzburg.
    • In his concertos, Mozart took great care to write idiomatically for each instrument.
    • Before Mozart, the orchestra played a purely supporting role in concertos. Mozart developed their position, such as making the wind section more important and independent.
    • K488 is considered Mozart's least virtuosic piano concerto. Since this is one of Mozart's later concertos, the wind instruments are of equal importance to the string section.
    • K622, the clarinet concerto, was Mozart's last instrumental work. He dedicated it to a clarinettist friend.
