  • Islamic views: Love and relationships
    • Sexual intercourse is seen as an act of worship that fufills emotional and physical needs as well as being procreative.
      • Procreation is a way which humans can contribute towards Allah's creation
      • Sexual intercurse is a gift from Allah and therefroe can only take place within a marriage.
        • Islam encourages people to marry and not lead a celibate life.
          • Marriage places a responsibility on the husband and the wife to meet each other's sexual needs.
    • Homosexual relationships.
      • Forbidden due to the strict rules of intercourse only taking place between a husband and a wife.
        • Some muslim lawyers have argued that it is a crime which should be punishable by death.
    • Adultury
      • Men are not allowed to be alone with women other than their wives in case they are tempted by them.
        • "Let no man be in privacy with a woman he is not married to, or satan will be the third"
      • Islam recognises that men and women can be tempted to have sex outside of marriage but this s adultery.
        • "Nor come nigh to adultery for it is shameful and an evil, opening the road."
      • The punishment for adultery:
        • "The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication - flog each of them with a hundred stripes.
    • Marriage
      • Often arranged but can only take place with consent of both parties.
        • Forced marriage would be invalid.
      • Courting is not permitted the two that are going to marry are only allowed to e in each others company with family present.
      • Muslim men can have up to 4 wives but each wife must be treated equally and the other wives must agree.
      • A muslim man may marry a woman of a different religion but a muslim woman must marry a muslim man.
    • Divorce
      • It is allowed as a last resort.
      • A man cannot seek a divorce until it is certain she is not pregnant.
      • During a period of 3 months reconciliation should be attempted.
      • You can re marry twice but after a 3rd divorce remarriage to each other cannot take place unless the woman has been married to another.
