      • The purposeful features of the world would not be so complex unless there was a divine intelligence who designed those features
    • Cosmological Arguments ask 'why is there something rather than nothing
      • The existence of the universe requires an explanation and God is this
    • Natural Theology is the name given to demonstrate the existence of God using human REASON
      • It contrasts with 'revealed theology'

        • Can give people truths they could never work out themsleves
          • eg truths about life after death
      • Can reassure people that their beliefs make sense
      • And can give them logical reasons to support their faith
    • Natural theology seeks existence of God through observing the world around us- MUST BE A DESIGNER
      • Plants and animals have special features to suit their environments
      • beauty of the world
      • vitality and movement in the world (life giving god)

    • Against Natural Theology
      • Scientific explanations of the working world rather than assuming that it all comes form the agency of God
      • Suffering and Hardships (not everyone sees a beautiful world)
      • Others believe that we can only gain knowledge about God when he reveals it to us, our reasoning is not up to the task
    • Teleological arguments for the existence of God are usually known as 'design arguments'
      • Telos
      • This argument looks at the end results to draw conclusions
      • When we look at the world we see examples of order, beauty, purpose and complexity
        • These things cant arrive due to chance
          • Must be a designer who designed the world to be this way
