    • Inspiratory muscles stimulated to contract by release of Ach
      • Diaphragm contracts, flattening and moving downwards
        • External intercostals contract pivoting the ribs upward and outward, expanding the chest wall
          • Increased volume of the thoraic cavity, pulling outward on the intrapleural fluid
            • the intrapleural pressure is decreased
              • this causes an increase in transpulmonary pressure
                • There is a larger distending pressure across the lungs, expands the chest wall
                  • Decreases the pressure in the alveoli, air flows in until the pressure increases to atmospheric pressure
