- Impact of Coastal Flooding in the Maldives
- Economic
- Loss of tourism
- Tourism is the largest industry in the Maldives, so if the main airport isn't operational due to coastal flooding the country will be cut off from international tourists massively reducing the country's income.
- Disrupted fishing industry
- Fish are the Maldives' largest export. Coastal flooding can damage fish processing plants, hence reducing the fish exports and the countries income.
- Loss of tourism
- Environmental
- Loss of Beaches
- Wears away the beaches on the islands at a rapid rate destroying habitats and exposing the land behind the beach to the effects of flooding
- Loss of Soil
- The soil on most of the islands is shallow, and so is easily washed away which would mean most plants won't be able to grow.

- Social
- Homes damaged or destroyed
- A severe flood could make a entire community homeless!
- Less freshwater available
- If water supplies (that are already low) are polluted with salty seawater during floods then some islands will have to rely on rainwater to meet their water demands.
