C2 2.1 Giant Ionic Structures

?
View mindmap
  • Giant Ionic Structures
    • Ionic compounds have giant structures
      • In these, many strong electrostatic forces hold the ions together
    • Solids at room temperature
    • A lot of energy is needed to melt them
      • So, they have high melting and boiling points
    • However, when melted the ions are free to move
    • Can carry charge when melted
      • The liquids can conduct electricity
    • Some ionic solids dissolve in water
      • Water molecules split up the lattice
      • Ions are free to move in the solutions

Good amount of information, just a bit hard to read in the layout and in just one colour
