  - Started to develop as a resort in 1850 when railways made the town accessible from nearby cities
  - Blackpool UK's leading coastal resort
  - By 1900 the promenade, piers and hotels were built
  - All inclusive holidays abroad made visitor numbers start to decline
  - By 1999
    - Visitor numbers dropped from 17 to 11 million
    - 1000 hotels closed
    - 300 holiday flats closed
- 4. Tourism in an extreme environment - Antarctica
  - Tourism is focused on Antarctic Peninsular
  - In the late 90's 5000 visitors visited Antarctica and in 2015 100,000 visited annually

    - No ships can carry more than 500

  - Cruise ships can carry up to 1000 passengers
