- Small, trial studies designed to test their effectiveness and make amendments, e.g. testing a questionnaire to see if it measures what it intended to

- Single Blind Studies
- A study or experiment where only the researcher knows what treatments are being administered, i.e. participants are unaware whether they are in the experimental or control group
- Reduces posibility of demand characterisitcs

- Double Blind Studies
- A study or experiment where neither researcher or the participant know what treatments are being administered, I.e. participants and the researcher are unaware whether they are in the control or experimental grouip
